Spring is in the air – even in Seattle. We hope that you are enjoying some beautiful weather as well. Thanks to your prayers and support, DCMi has served in Africa and Europe this spring.
In addition to Rwanda (Gisenyi), where we have ministered for the past few years, we had the privilege of holding our first pastors’ conference in Kampala, Uganda after a year of preparation. Dr. and Mrs. James Lim again served the Lord in Africa on behalf of DCMi. This couple has really come to love the people and culture of Africa. After their conferences were over, several African pastors emailed me to convey how much James and Anna had enriched their lives and ministry. They were so grateful to DCMi for sending them to hold these conferences in their countries. The pastors of Uganda begged us to continue to hold pastors’ conferences in Kampala until every pastor is properly equipped to minister effectively to their people. On Easter Sunday, Kay, Grace, and I departed for Poland for a missionary conference. At least 130 spiritually “thirsty” Korean missionaries and 70 of their kids attended the conference from all over Europe. The International Mission Board of the Korean Baptist Convention has commissioned these missionaries to evangelize post-Christian Europe. Instead of sharing some biblical formula for success, the Lord told me that I should share the story of my own failure and suffering and how the Lord restored me at the lowest points of my life. When I gave an invitation after preaching, there was not a dry eye in the conference hall as these missionaries were recommitting their lives to the One who had called them. Although the circumstances may differ, every person has experienced some degree of suffering. The Lord used this conference to bring hope and restoration to these missionaries who can say along with the Apostle Paul: “But He said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Cor. 12:9).
I can picture the Lord smiling at our obedience as He told us, “Go, make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19). Thank you for standing with us in the endeavor of fulfilling the Great Commission in our generation. We would not be able to respond to this calling without your support.
After Poland, we travelled to Germany at the invitation of our German friends, Uli & Claudia Schuenemann and their beautiful daughters Clara, Marie, and Esther. Kay and Grace met this family
when they lived in Nanjing, China in 2003-04. Since this week coincided with Grace’s spring break, we were able to take her to Europe with us. We certainly enjoyed our family vacation in Germany. Grace will grow up cherishing these sweet memories of flying with Mommy and Daddy, sightseeing at the old castle of Heidelberg, walking in the city park of Mannheim and hanging out with Esther.
In October, DCMi will hold a major Gospel Festival in Yangon, Myanmar. There has never been such an open door for the West and East to reach out together with the gospel to this city of more than 4 million people. More than one hundred churches of Yangon have invited us for this unprecedented opportunity and more churches are yet to join us as we network the churches of Yangon for evangelism and follow-up. In order to lay the foundation of the festival preparation, I am going to Yangon on April 30; however, I am still waiting for my visa. Would you pray that the Lord will have His way in me? Please pray also that we will maximize this opportunity for building unity among the churches of Myanmar. Upon returning from Myanmar, I will write to you further about the vision for Yangon Gospel Festival and how we can fulfill the Great Commission together there.
In the last week of May, my coworkers Antoinnette Williams and Lisa Woods will be serving in Ethiopia. Their mission is to inspire and train native Ethiopian evangelists to more effectively share the gospel, particularly with Muslims. Both Antoinnette and Lisa are evangelists themselves and prayer warriors. I have no doubt God that will use these two women to light a fire in the hearts of these evangelists. The impact of DCMi’s ministry is multiplying through dear servants such as the Lims, Antoinnette, and Lisa.
The old DCMi website (http://www.david-chung.net) has finally retired and we have launched our new website. The new website address is http://www.davidchung.us where you will find more information about the vision and ministry of DCMi. We have excluded references to Myanmar since it is a closed country and such information might hinder our ability to obtain visas. Many have asked if there is a way to make an online financial contribution to DCMi and this is now possible on the new website.
